Slow Cooker Beef Stew based on a Mary Berry Christmas Recipe

Slow Cooker Christmas Beef Stew from Mary Berrys Christmas Favourites

This slow cooker Christmas beef stew is based on a BBC recipe from Mary Berry’s Absolute Christmas Favourites. Which I have adapted for the slow cooker. This is a great recipe to cook for a crowd, over the Christmas holidays. And makes the most of your slow cooker, to create a delicious beef casserole. With minimal amount of prep, then cooked low and slow, throughout the day. Leaving you free to enjoy the festivities and time with your family. This is also a great winter-warming beef stew!

Slow Cooker Christmas Beef Stew – Mary Berry BBC Recipe

This is a slow cooker Christmas beef stew recipe. Based on Mary Berry’s BBC Absolute Christmas Favourites recipe. Available online, here: Horseradish and mustard beef casserole. Which I have tweaked a little. And adapted it to work in a slow cooker. (This beef casserole recipe is included in *Mary Berry’s Absolute Favourites cook book.)

A hearty beef casserole, with robust flavours of mustard, horseradish and Worcestershire sauce. That all work well to compliment and enhance this tasty and comforting beef casserole. This makes an interesting dish that is so different to the upcoming Christmas lunch. And is not only great for a crowd over the holiday season. It is easily made in the slow cooker. And requires very little preparation.

I followed the BBC recipe, (linked above). Almost exactly, except I did a third of the quantities. I used Guinness stout instead of the white wine. (As I had some spare, the rest of the bottle I’ll use in my next recipe, see below for details.) I found that this made enough for 4 portions. Cooked on Low for 5 hours in total – I added the sliced chestnut mushrooms after 3 hours.

Serve this simple mashed potatoes, as Mary Berry suggests. Or with cheesy sweet potato mash. The cheddar in the mash works so well with the stout and beef. Whilst the sweetness of the sweet potatoes acts as a nice contrast to this very savoury, meaty stew. And also serve with some green veg, like green beans or peas.
