Review

I decided to try this red cabbage recipe, as I had some left over from making a slaw. Even though this is really a Christmas slow cooker recipe. It’s freezable, and I thought it would be a good way to use up the leftover cabbage. And meant that I’d have a standby veggie dish, for the freezer at the same time.

I have cooked this sticky red cabbage recipe on the hob. And in comparison, with that. Doing this recipe in the slow cooker did not give the same result as cooking it on the stove top. It was good, but not as sticky as it should have been!

I think this is because cooking in the slow cooker doesn’t allow steam to evaporate. And as a result this cabbage dish isn’t as cooked down, reduced or sticky. As it would have been by doing it on the hob. So I think this is a recipe that is best done on the hob. And doesn’t benefit from the slow cooking method.
