My Attempt

This is my first pork chop recipe cooked in my Morphy Richards 3.5L Slow Cooker. Using the balsamic braised pork chop recipe, from the Just 5 Ingredients Slow Cooker Book. This slow cooker pork chop recipe is also included in 500 Slow Cooker Recipes by Sara Lewis (See my Book Review).

Firstly, I reduced the recipe slightly, adjusting it from 4 medium to 2 large pork chops. My slow cooker had enough space to lay both chops snugly in one layer in the pot.

The recipe was easy, using every day ingredients. Including onion, dessert apples and pork chops. Plus with the added flavour of balsamic (apple balsamic if  available). And soft brown sugar to balance the acidity with some sweetness.

The sauce comes from the softened apples and chicken stock. Thickened with cornflour and mustard.

This made a full meal enough for 3 people. Serve with mashed potatoes. This would also have been good, as it is summer with a colourful slaw. Made with red cabbage, carrots, apple and celery.

Slow Cooker Braised Pork Chops Recipe Review

This is an easy pork chop recipe, perfect for a no-fuss family. Slow cooked pork with quartered apples and thinly sliced onions.

The best thing about this slow cooker pork recipe, is that you don’t need to brown the pork chops beforehand. And the final dish isn’t affected by this. With the brown sugar, balsamic vinegar and mustard providing plenty of flavour. The only downside is that the recipe didn’t include salt and pepper in the method. Which I think it should have done.

The chops were fall apart tender. The apples though I didn’t manage to immerse them in the liquid in the pot. Held their shape, but in the end were actually so soft, they were a bit like an apple sauce. And the onions were also very soft and sweet. Plus there’s plenty of sauce, with a sweet and sour tanginess.

This slow cooker braised pork chop dish goes perfectly with mashed potatoes. The timings for this recipe, were spot-on. With this weight of pork chops requiring 30 minutes on High, then 4 hours on Low. Though you can just set it to Low from the start, if you are not around to change the setting.
