Spiced Apple Tea Loaf Slow Cooker Recipe Review

Spiced Apple Tea Loaf Slow Cooker RecipeSpiced Apple Tea Loaf.

A slow cooker recipe review.

From BBC’s Good Food slow cooker favourites cook book.
A very easy fruity loaf cake recipe.

This loaf cake recipe requires a 1kg loaf tin.
As my slow cooker isn’t big enough for this sized tin.
I did have to do some tweaking.

Slow Cooker Spiced Apple Tea Loaf Recipe Review

With a simple loaf cake recipe. Made fruity with grated apple and dried vine fruits in the mix. And sliced apple and apricot jam glaze on top. Spiced with muscovado sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. This is a very nice tea-time treat.

One problem with this loaf recipe, is that it was for a 1kg loaf. As my my slow cooker is too small for this. I had to half the quantities. And use a 500kg loaf tin.

The method was straight forward. Similar to how you would make a loaf cake for the oven.

The only issue I did have with this recipe was with the upturned saucer. Required to put in the bottom of the cooker pot, to place the loaf tin on. I’m guessing to allow heat to circulate round the tin, like it would in an oven.

But as I didn’t have a saucer that would fit in my cooking pot. I used a small dish, but I found that the loaf tin seemed to be too high up in the pot. And indeed the cooking time was as long. As if I’d done the full quantity, at 3 hours.

Recipe Review

Anyway, the end result was so delicious. And the texture was light. Just as a loaf cake should be. I will definitely do this apple loaf recipe again. But maybe with a shallower dish to stand the tin on. As I think if the loaf had been lower in the slow cooker pot. Then it would have cooked through in a shorter time.

Also the recipe suggested a 1kg loaf would yield 10 slices. But even with my half-sized loaf, it still made 7 slices.

What I’m finding out with these slow cooker recipes. Is that you can’t alter the slow cooker recipes too much. There is a particular method you must follow. It seems I’ve still a lot of practising to do. Before I get to grips with this slow cooking method.
