Recently I reviewed Hamlyn’s Just 5 Slow Cooker Book. Which I liked very much, I thought it was a very good slow cooker book for beginners.

As for this Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook, firstly there are a few recipes that are also in their Just 5 book. However, there’s much more to the book than this. With twice as many recipes.

These cover a good range of cuisines and tastes. From old-fashioned British cooking. Such as gammon, suet puddings, pheasant and kedgeree.

To French, Indian, Mexican, Italian and American. Plus there are slow recipes to cater for all occasions. From the every day to special dinners.

Review

What is particularly good in this book, are the recipe sections for kids faves and easy cheats. The kids favourites slow cooker recipes cover some very good examples. Especially the pasta, curry, ribs and burgers. Any of which could easily be tweaked to adapt them to your own family’s tastes. Whilst the easy cheats section includes plenty of recipes that use ready-made jar sauces, such as jarred curry sauces. Where you can throw all the ingredients into the slow cooker pot. Along with the required pre-prepared jar of sauce. And just leave the slow cooker to do its magic!

There are a few, but not many veggie recipes in this book. And a very good pudding section, again covering lots of traditional British puds. Plus the added extras section have recipes to make bottled sauces, perfect for stocking up the store cupboard with handy and delicious standbys.

Overall, this is a comprehensive slow cooker book. With plenty of cuisines covered including lots of good traditional British recipes. And good value for the amount of recipes included. More importantly it’s a very handy guide to springboard off of. Providing plenty of inspiration to adapt the recipes to your own tastes. And make a whole range of interesting slow cooker meals for your own family’s requirements.
